Injuries to wingers are a concern for Hunslet ahead of Friday’s Harry Jepson OBE Memorial Trophy tie at home to Leeds Rhinos.
Hunslet beat amateur neighbours Hunslet Club Parkside 48-22 two days ago, but coach Gary Thornton confirmed: “Joel Gibson picked up a groin injury and Dave Foggin-Johnston hyper-extended an elbow.
“He played on, but it doesn’t look good and potentially we have a bit of an issue with the wingers.
“Niall Walker is out with appendicitis and Jordan Gill has tendonitis and is probably a week or two away.
“I don’t want to risk anyone, but if Dave and Joel don’t come through we’ve got Tom Ashton and Mufaro Mvududu who can play as emergency wingers, so we’ll be all right.
Others to pick up knocks against Parkside were Danny Grimshaw (groin) and Lewis Reed (hamstring). Hunslet lost the equivalent fixture last year and Thornton said: “It was a scruffy game, but the result was the most important thing.
“It was a difficult afternoon for us.
“But we overcame it and ran out comfortable winners.
“I was pleased with the scoreline, but disappointed with some of their tries.
“But credit to them, they were well-organised and well-drilled and gave us the test we wanted.”
