Hunslet have prepared their squad for this weekend’s Championship game at home to Salford (June 14th 3pm) off the back of 3 tough games in which The Parksiders have had to contend with injuries and absence of loan players against the top 3 sides in The Championship.
“We’ve had a really good week in training, and a strong 17 available for this weekend’s game.” said Trout.
“I was not happy with our effort last week at Newcastle. We were one dimensional and reactive rather than pro-active. Clunky in attack with no conviction. It was a tough watch reviewing the game, but we take it on the chin and try to find what we are missing. I’m optimistic about this week’s game, the away loss earlier in the season (at Salford) still hurts, but I believe we have a better team out this weekend. We don’t want any drama’s, stay on task and don’t force the game.”
Salford are a different proposition to Newcastle, who now have good loan players from York and have men who are full-time professionals, but The Reds do not lack spirit.
“They have a couple of loans in, but they are full of energy and fight. At their place we gifted them good field position in which to score from interceptions and kicks, they caught us by surprise a bit. But with key players returning to our squad, we’ll know when to be sensible and other times when to play football.”
Hunslet have three loan players from Doncaster in the squad. Jordan Baldwinson has featured a few times this year for Hunslet and Pauli Pauli played good minutes at Newcastle. Also coming in is Sam Smeaton who has nearly 200 appearances and 70 tries at different Clubs across the Championship.
Jimmy Watson, Lee Gaskell, Darcy Simpson, Harvey Hallas and Myles Harrop all come into contention, but Kevin Larroyer and Jayden Hatton are still long-term injuries with Mackenzie Turner joining them and Ant Walker (Knee) and Dom Tydeman (HIA) likely to miss out. Luca Atkinson is also not available.
“We have a bit more competition for places this week, I’m glass half full, I’m realistic but I feel there are some important games coming up and our squads good enough to win them and climb the table, starting this Sunday.”
The last time Hunslet beat Salford is way back February 1967, and their last home victory in October 1966 at Parkside. This is an unwanted record Hunslet can banish this Sunday at the South Leeds Stadium with a good crowd cheering them on.
