Hunslet had, at teatime on Saturday (9 May), received an impressive £1,666.77 in orders for their NHS training top.

The top had been launched just five days previously as a means of supporting front-line workers in the battle against Covid-19.

Parksiders fans – many of whom would, exactly 55 years previously to the day, have been at the famous ground welcoming Hunslet’s players home after the classic 1965 Challenge Cup Final against Wigan – have rallied superbly to the clarion call.

General Manager Peter Todd said: “It’s a tremendous response. Our supporters, from near and far, have wasted no time at all in getting behind the drive and we’ve no reason to doubt that when the offer expires we’ll be able to pass on a substantial sum to the NHS.”

The tops, which are in NHS blue and which feature the NHS heroes rainbow, cost just £22; Hunslet are inviting extra donations as part of the purchase process.
