Hunslet’s fans have shown wonderful loyalty to the club in the face of the coronavirus pandemic, with over 96 per cent of season ticket holders and 98 per cent of members waiving the option to secure refunds for the 2020 season.

Chairman Kenny Sykes has been quick to praise the level of commitment shown by the Hunslet faithful as the deadline for refunds passed on 31 August.

He said: “We made fans aware at the beginning of 2020 of the need for them to financially back the club if we were to survive and the response then was fantastic.

“There was, in light of the current situation, obviously a risk that many would take up the refund option, but the fact that so many have stuck with the club in this way lays firm foundations for 2021.”

Sykes continued: “The impact this level of support has on attracting additional investment to the club is massive; it demonstrates that we are all in it together, and that is our biggest selling point.”

Hunslet recently announced 247Blinds as their new main sponsor for 2021 and Sykes expects the momentum to continue over the coming weeks. “It was great to welcome Jason Peterkin of 247Blinds on board last week, and the Birch family the week before,” he said. “Meanwhile we have been speaking to other potential investors and hope to make announcements shortly.

“2020 has not been the best year for anyone but we are all working hard to ensure we are ready for 2021. We may not have the big financial backers of some of the clubs in League 1 but I’m confident our spirit of togetherness will stand us in good stead, both on and off the pitch.”
