After two weeks without a game Hunslet got off to a slow start at Barrow Raiders yesterday (24 May 2026) as they sought their second win of the season from three trips to the North-West.
On a boiling hot afternoon the home side got off to a flying start when King and Bishop both scored converted tries in the first 10 minutes, Hunslet helping them along with mistakes. 12-0
Bullock added another for the home side before Lee Gaskell sent Charlie Graham over to reduce the arrears. Dan Abram converting his 500th career goal. 18-6
The game then became a stalemate until just before the break when Tee Ritson finished a move to score. 24-6 at the break to the home side.
Hunslet have played some lovely flowing Rugby this season, and although missing strike players Billy Jowitt and Myles Harrop they fought their way back into the match.
Cam Berry went over from close range, before Lee Gaskell found a way through on the left edge, then Charlie Graham took an interception to score and Hunslet were back in it at 24-22.
Game on! And at this point it was anybody’s game. However King relieved the pressure for Barrow scoring a barge over to stretch the lead to 8 points, before Cresswell made the game safe in the dying moments, Walker finishing with 6 conversion for Barrow and Abram with 3 for Hunslet. 36-22
On the whole it was a good Hunslet performance away to a strong Championship side.
Debutants Jayden Hatton, Dominic Tydeman and Luca Atkinson all had good games, whilst Mackenzie Turner made a welcome return to the fold.
Charlie Graham, Lee Gaskell and Ethan O’Hanlon were all impressive as The Parksiders lost Harvey Hallas early on with an achilles injury.
Next week Hunslet face London Broncos at the South Leeds Stadium (Sunday 31 May at 3pm) as The Parksiders celebrate ‘Super Heroes Day’ with guests the Darby Rimmer MND foundation.
